  • September 01, 1966 – Ralph Baer begins developing an idea for game playing using a standard home television monitor, writing a four-page description of his idea. Within days, he has produced schematic drawings of a two-player block chase game.
  • September 01, 1988 – Nintendo releases the Super Mario Bros. 2 video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System in the US.
  • September 01, 1992 – Nintendo releases the Super Mario Kart game for the Super NES in the US.
  • September 01, 2005 – The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis, Missouri, rules that the Digital Millennium Copyright Act disallows altering video games published by Blizzard to link with servers other than the company’s official Battle.net site.
  • September 02, 1980 – Ultima released.
  • September 02, 1999 – Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear released.
  • September 03, 1981 – Coleco Industries obtains exclusive use of Midway Manufacturing’s trademark on self-contained and portable electronic versions of Midway’s coin-operated arcade games.
  • September 07, 1999 – ADV Films releases the Sonic The Hedgehog – The Movie film on DVD (US$29.98) and VHS tape (US$19.98) in the USA.
  • September 07, 2004 – Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War goes gold.
  • September 07, 2008 – Spore released.
  • September 13, 1993 – Acclaim Entertainment releases the Mortal Kombat video game for the Super NES, Genesis, Game Boy, and Game Gear game systems in the US. Price for the Super NES is US$74.99, for the Game Boy US$34.99. Acclaim spent US$10 million on pre-release marketing, declaring the day “Mortal Monday”.
  • September 13, 1999 – In Japan, Sony announces the official name of the successor to the PlayStation is PlayStation 2. The system will be released first in Japan on March 4, priced at 39,800 yen (about US$370).
  • September 14, 2004 – The Sims 2 released.
  • September 14, 2006 – Nintendo announces release date of November 19 for the Wii video game system in the USA, with price US$249.99.
  • September 15, 2003 – HALO PC goes gold.
  • September 16, 2005 – F.E.A.R. goes gold.

  • September 20, 2002 – Unreal Tournament 2003 goes gold.

  • September 27, 1983 – Atari dumps 14 truckloads of game cartridges and other computer equipment in a landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico. 5-6 million cartridges of ET: The Extraterrestrial are included.
  • September 27, 2005 – Serious Sam II goes gold.
  • September 29, 1996 – Nintendo releases the Nintendo 64 video game system in North America. Price is US$199.95. (350,000 sell out in the first three days.)
