- October 01, 1979 – Alan Miller, David Crane, Bob Whitehead, Jim Levy, and Larry Kaplan found Activision, to produce game cartridges for the Atari 2600 game system.
- October 01, 1995 – Square releases the Secret of Evermore video game for the Super NES in the US. The game is a sequel to Secret of Mana.
- October 4, 1995 - Nintendo releases the Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island game for the Super NES in the US.
- October 08, 2001 – Civilization III goes gold.
- October 10, 1981 – At the Citicorp Center in Manhattan, New York, Atari sponsors an open tournament of arcade games. Frank Cretella scores 118,740 in Asteroids, setting a new national record.
- October 10, 1994 – DOOM II released.
- October 13, 2004 – Video game Halo 2 is illegally released to the Internet prior to official release, in PAL format with French text.
- October 14, 1996 – Planet Quake is born.
- October 14, 2004 – Zoo Tycoon 2 goes gold.
- October 18, 1985 – Nintendo releases the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in the United States, in New York City. Special displays are set up in department, toy, and electronics stores. The NES comes with the Robotic Operating Buddy and the Zapper light gun. Price is US$125. Seventeen game cartridges are available with the launch of the game system.

- October 18, 2007 – In Los Angeles, California, the E for All Expo video game show is held, open to the public. About 18,000 attend over four days.

- October 21, 2005 – Universal Pictures releases the film Doom to theaters in the USA, based on the computer/video game. The film cost US$100 million to make and market. (Gross theater receipts: about US$42 million worldwide.)

- October 23, 2000 – Sega releases the Quake III Arena video game for the Dreamcast in the US.
- October 30, 2001 – Aliens vs. Predator 2 released.
- October 31, 1982 – To date, Coleco Industries has sold over 2.2 million table-top video-game machines.
- October 31, 1996 – Command & Conquer: Red Alert released.
- October 31, 1996 – Eidos Interactive releases the Tomb Raider video game for the PlayStation and the Saturn. The game innovates with 3D third-person adventure gameplay.
