  • August 01, 1993 – Nintendo releases the Super Mario All-Stars video game for the Super NES in the US.
  • August 01, 1995 – Command & Conquer released.
  • August 01, 1998 – Rainbow Six released.
  • August 07, 2000 – Lifetime Television airs the film The Truth About Jane on television in the USA. A Nintendo game system is heard being played, but a Sega controller is shown.
  • August 08, 2002 – Microsoft announces it is working on a sequel to the Halo video game for the Xbox.
  • August 09, 1992 – Midway Amusement Games releases the Mortal Kombat video game Version 1.0 to arcades in the US.
  • August 11, 1995QuakeCon is born.
  • August 11, 2003 – Planet DOOM is born!
  • August 16, 2006 – Company of Heroes goes gold.
  • August 18, 1995 – The film Mortal Kombat is released to theaters in the USA. (Total American theater ticket sales: US$70 million.)
  • August 21, 1995 – Nintendo of America introduces the Virtual Boy portable video game system in the US.
  • August 22, 2001 - Nintendo announces it is delaying the release of the GameCube in North America from November 5 to November 18, to increase the quantity of systems available at launch from 500,000 to 700,000.
  • August 24, 1999 – Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun released.
  • August 24, 2000 – In Japan, Nintendo unveils the Gamecube video game system.
  • August 27, 2002 – Battlefield 1942 goes gold.
  • August 30, 2004 – Acclaim Entertainment files for Chapter 7 final bankuptcy, with debt over US$100 million.
